Lamb of God, Machine Head, Trivium & Gojira @ Revolution

I got to the venue early, my will-call paper said 3:00 and I wanted to make sure NOTHING went wrong. This was a show I'd been looking forward to for months (bought my tickets in December!). I was on my own since my daughter had to work, but I met up with some cool people right away. Lamb of God's sound check was taking place when I got there, and we hung around and peeked through the fence, trying to get a few photos too. LOL those were my first injuries-there were bouganvillas planted right by the fence and if you dont know what they are, just picture a rose bush with huge thorns on it! We all got scraped up good, but at least we got a sneak preview of the show. And the only pictures of the band using a real camera!

Lamb of God's bus was right next to us, and Willie was kind enough to autograph my setlist that I had gotten at Gigantour and posed for pictures with us. Mark came out and did the same. John came out....but for a different reason. Apparently someone was messing with the bus-I'm not quite sure what they were doing~ banging on it or something? Whatever it was, I'm sure he had a right to be pissed. Travis from Trivium came over to us too and did autographs and photos.

At one point, security was asking us to step aside so he could get through the barrier. I turned around and there was Robb Flynn!!! Anyone who has known me for a while knows that I consider him a god! I love his lyrics, vocals, musicianship....everything. Machine Head is one of my all-time favorite bands, the one I credit with getting me into REAL metal. I asked him if I could get a picture, he said he had to go inside first, but he would be back out later.

I went over and got my ticket-and some Machine Head street teamers were there. I got a Blackening sticker and a MH pick for my collection. OK, so it doesn't REALLY count as an authentic pick, since none of the band members used it, but it's still cool. It was time for me to get in line anyway-I just had to be up front for this concert! I succeeded in getting my camera in, despite a heavy-duty search at the door. It didn't matter because I was able to get up front and couldn't use it anyway. At least they let us use camera phones this time.

I was surrounded by some decent people, so I knew it was going to be a great night. Except for the guys who had to piss, but didn't want to leave their spots to do so.....I guess I don't blame them LOL I wouldn't want to leave those spots either....that's why I never drink at concerts. Oh yeah, and there was this douche who decided he was going to squeeze his big self into a 2 inch opening on the rail during Lamb of God. Even security asked him where the hell he thought he was going! I believe he was attempting to protect his little princess girlfriend. Dude, if she can't handle it, she shouldn't be up front!

Gojira was really good ~ I liked their latest cd, but I wasn't really in the mood for them, I was anxious for some headbanging music and theirs just didn't do it for me. Another time, another place would have been ok. I was probably just too psyched about Machine Head being up next!

Machine Fucking Head!!!

Machine Head....OMFG they were amazing! Only 5 songs (6 if you count Happy Birthday to Phil) but my voice was totally shot from them. Robb preceded Aesthetics of Hate with an explanation about the song...and he ended it with another tribute to Dime....raising his guitar high in the air the way many of us picture Dime doing. I CANNOT wait till they do a headlining tour...hopefully not at Revolution though! Their set was way too short. *HUGS* to Johnyg for capturing part of Imperium!:

Trivium was up next, and while I prefer their older songs, I don't have a "problem" with this band like a lot of others do. Many people were saying they shouldn't be on the tour. This was my 4th time seeing them and I thought they put on a good performance. For their last song (Pull Harder), Robb came out and sang with them. When it was all over, Corey threw his pick and it landed right in front of the barrier. Security picked it up, turned around and held it behind him for anyone who wanted it. Of course I grabbed it LOL. Right after that, this girl came out from backstage and tossed out a few of Matt's picks, and then she got down off the stage and put one right in my hand! Just one more thing added to my lucky night....

There were plenty of crowd surfers throughout the show, and we were all getting pretty jammed up against the rail, but all hell was about to break loose...the surge to the front and the surfing didn't stop the entire time Lamb of God was on.

Lamb of God opened with my favorite song of theirs ~Hourglass! During the next song-Again We Rise, a crowd surfer was being pulled out over me and I felt like I was being decapitated! My neck hurt like hell, but that wasn't enough to keep me from having a good time. A few songs later...another crowd surfer "attacked" this time my chest was pushed into the rail so hard that I actually heard a crunch. I had trouble catching my breath and felt like I was going to pass out. But I just couldn't even THINK of missing out on the rest of the show, so I took it easy for a little bit, since I didn't want security to think anything was wrong and pull me out. I recovered enough to headbang, push back when needed and duck down REAL low when someone was being pulled out. I stayed till the end and I'm so glad I did! Robb came out and sang with the band. Randy also congratulated Phil on his 40th birthday, but said he didn't want us to sing Happy Birthday because "we sucked at it". He dedicated Blacken The Cursed Sun to him instead. Randy's vocals were flawless IMO and they played so many of my favorites. I'm already excited about seeing them again at Ozzfest and yes indeed I will definitely go for the pit!

After the show, I had planned on hanging around their bus hoping to meet the rest of the band, but security was shooing everyone away and to be honest, I was in serious need of some meds. So I headed home.

I'm still having trouble moving my neck, it hurts to laugh, cough or breathe deep (I found out it was a 'sternal contusion'), I have cuts and bruises all over but it was an AMAZING fucking day-and I'd do it all over again! (and thank God I'm off work for a week of Spring Break)
